For Dr. Rania Elkhatib, the first Israeli Arab woman to become a plastic surgeon in Israel, the job at Rambam Medical Center is a chance to be an emissary for her community. The first Israeli Arab woman to become a plastic surgeon, Dr Rania Elkhatib works at the Rambam Medical Center, the largest hospital in northern Israel. After studying medicine at the Technion -- Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa and then specializing in general surgery, the 28-year-old doctor decided to focus on plastic surgery: "... It was important to me because in our community plastic surgery isn't very advanced and it's not well accepted so I feel a bit like an emissary for my community, to go into this field and take it forward," she says. Situated in Haifa, Rambam is the referral center for 11 district hospitals. Its plastic surgeons treat a number of conditions, ranging from burns, war injuries and cleft palates to breast and facial reconstruction for cancer patients. Thirty percent of doctors at Rambam are women, and the representation of Arab physicians is proportionate to the numbers in the population. While the hospital is committed to providing equal opportunities, Prof. Yehuda Ullmann, head of the plastic surgery department, stresses that doctors are chosen purely on merit: "Plastic surgery residency is the most wanted residency in medicine not just in Israel but all over the world, and she was elected not because she's Arab, not because she's a woman, because she is Dr. Elkhatib and she is good and she is a very good doctor over here so we are lucky to have her here."

Alaa Murabit's family moved from Canada to Libya when she was 15. Before, she’d felt equal to her brothers, but in this new environment she sensed big prohibitions on what she could accomplish. As a proud Muslim woman, she wondered: was this really religious doctrine? With humor, passion and a refreshingly rebellious spirt, she shares how she discovered examples of female leaders from across the history of her faith — and how she launched a campaign to fight for women's rights using verses directly from the Koran. Om Waleed is a taxi driver. In fact she is the only woman driving a taxi in Cairo. She has broken a huge taboo and put up with repeated harassment to pursue her ambition of doing the job she wants in order to support her family of three. Euronews took a ride with her through the capital with the constant traffic jams creating more problems on her daily trips. Her skill has won her special standing among her male colleagues. “At first I faced a lot of problems with other drivers, because they were surprised by the presence of a woman driving a taxi, and were wondering, asking me are you driving a taxi? I was frustrated at the beginning but I started to learn not to care about their comments, refusing to listen to what they were saying or to take heed of the words I heard in the streets,” she told euronews. A petrol station in the city has become the first in the country to hire women attendants. Eight girls work during daylight hours. They went through a training course which focused on how to deal with male customers who are usually surprised to be served by a woman. But not everyone filling up is shocked – the girls also get admiring glances especially from women who are impressed to see them there. “My father rejected the idea at the beginning, asking me how I could would work in an open place like this, and why are women working in mens jobs! But when I started, I found it very easy and simple not as my parents had told me, and they became convinced after that,” said one of the girls, Hadeel Ashraf. Om Khada supports her family forging metal. It is a tough job but the only one she could find to earn an income. She has broken through many barriers but believes people now believe in her and she has shown she can be as productive as men. She says her life experience should be a beacon for other Arab women to overcome social and psychological barriers. “It was very strange for many people to see a woman working in such a job and dealing with men in the street, they were asking me why do you work? After some years they started to get used to my work, people started to get to know me very well, I can tell you it’s not a shame at all that a woman works in any kind of job as long as it’s not illegal,” she explained. Euronews correspondent in Cairo Mohammed Shaikhibrahim said: “With these examples which still remain very few and rare in Arab society, Arab women are proving once again their ability to break the restrictions which have been imposed on them But their dreams do not stop at this point, as the gap between reality and ambition to achieve substantial equality is still big.”

SourceJobs at malls will only be for Saudis: Labor Ministry LULWA SHALHOUB | Published — Friday 21 April 2017 JEDDAH: Jobs at shopping malls will be limited to Saudi nationals, the Labor and Social Development Ministry announced on Wednesday. “Minister of Labor and Social Development (Ali Al-Ghofais) issued an order limiting work in closed shopping centers in Saudi Arabia to Saudi men and women,” Khalid Abalkhail, spokesperson at the ministry tweeted. The Labor Ministry’s statement added that the new move should adhere to employing female sales assistants in women’s clothing and lingerie shops, which are mainly inside shopping malls. The statement also said: “The decision ensures that the Labor and Social Development Minister sets a time plan for the implementation and designates the location in accordance with the market’s condition and the data of job applicants. Coordination with the Saudization committees in the regions will be carried out with regards to the implementation plans and their dates.” The move comes in line with efforts to cut down the unemployment rate from 11.6 percent to 7 percent by 2030. Saudis make up one-fifth of the number of workers in the retail sector in the Kingdom. According to Vision 2030 released in 2016, there are only 300,000 Saudis out of 1.5 million workers employed in the retail sector. The Kingdom is seeking to create more than 450,000 jobs in the non-governmental sector by 2020, as per the National Transformation Program (NTP) under Saudi Vision 2030. The vision’s report reads: “We aim to provide job opportunities for an additional million Saudis by 2020 in a growing retail sector that attracts modern, local, regional and international brands across all regions of the country.” √ https://www.google.com.sa/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.arabnews.com/node/1087901/saudi-arabia&ved=0ahUKEwibxKaJ4bXTAhUQEVAKHS8OBqIQFggYMAA&usg=AFQjCNH_SB5h24LaouuMwCZ3i9XAcQRYlg&sig2=D-4HaRH6-ugMYbMmfRYX3w
